Information Sheet
Diet: The diet of the kitten/cat you are bringing home consists of FROMM, Felidae, Royal Canin Kitten Food in its dry form. If you wish to change the food, it is important that the change be gradual so that their digestive system can adapt to the change. I recommend a two-week transition. Gradually add the new cat food to the diet a little at a time, until it is completely the food of your choice. This process should be used whenever any change to the diet is made.
Housing: Kittens should be housed in a spacious, well lighted environment with a cat tree, if possible for scratching and plenty of toys to stimulate them and keep them healthy and active. They have been very well socialized to humans and enjoy their playtime. Toys can be as simple as a wadded up piece of paper!
Medical: All felines are vaccinated before they leave the cattery. A killed vaccine against Calici virus, Panleukopenia, and Rhinotracheitis is administered at 8-9 weeks of age and then repeated at 12-13 weeks of age for kittens with the addition of Chlamydia at the second vaccine. A booster should be administered one year from the date of their last vaccine by your veterinarian. All felines are guaranteed to be free of ear mites, fungus, and fleas.
The kittens are raised in a smoke-free environment. If they will be exposed to cigarette smoke in their new home, you may expect them to show some eye irritation. Please allow time for this adjustment.
Bathing: All felines are bathed once a week. Persian cats have hair, not fur and regular bathing will promote a luxurious and healthy coat in your pet. Products used are: Bausch & Lomb Eye ointment, Tearless Cat shampoo (or Johnson’s baby shampoo for their face), a degreaser, such as Goop, Pantene Pro V Volumizing Shampoo and Pantene Pro V Volumizing Conditioner. Bathing is a multi-step process that they are accustomed to when they leave for their new homes. If continued when they are in their new environment, it will be a natural transition. The process is as follows:
Comb out the coat so that no large knots are present. Apply the Bausch and Lomb to their eyes. This prevents any eye irritation while bathing. Dampen the coat slightly and apply a very generous amount of Goop to the entire body (not the face!) and work into the coat very well making sure all areas are cleaned down to the skin. Rinse. Lather the face and body with the tearless shampoo. Rinse. Lather the body with Pantene Pro V and work in well. Rinse VERY thoroughly. Make sure all soap is out of the coat. Apply a generous amount of Pantene Pro V Cream Rinse to the entire coat and work in. Rinse again, making sure all residue is removed and you are left with a clean coat. Towel dry, then comb out any knots and then blow dry while combing the entire time with a Teflon comb until the coat is completely dry.
Before I start the drying process, I clip the claws while the cat is still wrapped up in the towel. Clean the ears with an alcohol swab and a Q-tip, very gently, and apply a cosmetic cotton square and gently wipe the eye area. Wiping the eye area with a cotton cosmetic square should be done daily, especially if the cat is light colored or white in that area.
